BREIF HISTORY OF THACHARICKAL SREE BHADRAKALI TEMPLE ALAPRA is notable for the glourious past owing the harmonious cooperation among all sections of society.This co operation very much reflected in the padayani festival of THACHARICKAL SREE BHADRAKALI TEMPLE situated in the proposed reserve forest Ponthenpuzha. THACHARICKAL TEMPLE has a history of more than 350 years.
But in course of time for the reason unknown the temple was neglected by the local people and the same was destroyed by the forces of nature. Gradually temple sourrounded by big trees and herbs yeild in the forest. In 1954 Rajapramukh of travancore granted one acre of land to the temple in the Ponthenpuzha forest and in that very year daily pooja and other performances re started.In 1985 re construction of the Temple started and after that in 1991 padayani festival also restarted. That was the situation which demanded setting up of an organisation of the lovers of padayani . Thus sree bhadra padayani sangham came into being in 1993. Now sree bhadra padayani sangham is the only Organization in Kottayam district striving for the aimes started earlier. THACHARICKAL BHADRAKALI TEMPLE Is the only Temple in Kottayam district where padayani is performed
